Each day is different in the life of a copywriter. For our copywriting team at PRISM, we work on a variety of assignments including blog posts, articles, and scripts. Meet our team of four writers--Kat, Erin, Stacy, and me, Amanda.
What opportunities has being a copywriter for PRISM given you?
Kat: With almost any career, it is so important to know how to communicate effectively. Being a copywriter is so much more than just writing and editing, it’s learning how to convey a message and to educate readers. Those skills are so versatile and invaluable.
Stacy: It’s given me the opportunity to improve my written communication skills that employers are always looking for in candidates. It has also given me the opportunity to build my leadership within a group of hard-working students.
What is it like being a copywriter for PRISM as well as a full-time student?
Kat: Sometimes it can be a challenge, but it really just comes down to managing your time appropriately. I have learned so many skills and different strategies in PRISM that I can apply to my classes and vice versa.
Stacy: It requires some long nights. However, copywriting for PRISM is worth it because I’m doing something that I’m passionate about. It has also given me great life skills from learning how to manage my time as a full-time student.
What has been one of the most rewarding experiences you’ve had as a copywriter?
Kat: One of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a copywriter has been being able to attend different Virginia Tech events that I may not normally go to or even know about. Last semester I was able to attend the APEX Systems competition where I got to see students pitch these amazing ideas and inventions to a real world company. It was a great experience because I was able to learn a lot about the subject while also covering the event.
Amanda: I think one of the most rewarding experiences I have had is seeing my work published. For Pamplin, I was able to cover a few key events over the past year that have been posted on their website. It’s great to see your profile grow as your skill set grows.
What has been the greatest challenge you have faced in your position?
Erin: I wouldn’t necessarily say that I have faced any great challenges, but the most difficult transition has been working on my time management skills. Being part of PRISM has been an amazing experience, but it is very much a professional organization, requiring a lot of time from us. Being a student and being in a position that requires large amounts of time has taught me how to manage my time better.
